Go-Where Scotland supports Positive Action in Housing’s urgent appeal to find bikes for people from refugee communities living in hotels in Glasgow city.

As we saw with the tragic events in Glasgow a few weeks back, hotels were being used to house a large number of refugees during the COVID-19 crisis. Asylum seekers cannot work and they receive an allowance of only a few pounds leaving them without any money to use public transport – this means they cannot easily move around, travel to essential appointments or even visit a friend in another part of the city.

Bikes for Refugees Appeal Glasgow

There are many great projects helping people get bikes – Bikes for Good and Bikes for Refugees do some great work but are overwhelmed – their waiting lists go into the hundreds.

This is why we are launching this one off appeal at a time of crisis for refugees in Glasgow. We are working with campaigning charity Positive Action in Housing to support this cause. They put out a call last week and have been inundated with requests. There is a real desperate need for refugees to be able to move around and we want to help.

We all take for granted the liberating joy that riding bicycles bring to our lives – please if you have a spare bike or know someone who does, we would ask you to donate it to this cause. We need up to 30 adult bikes (all sizes / any type) in good working condition as well as 30 helmets and locks.

If you can help please get in touch by email to: home@positiveactionh.org or aneela@go-where.co.uk or call Aneela on mobile: 07713152855. Thank you for helping us with this appeal.
